Support during the RCIA

Who will accompany you on the RCIA journey?

Members of your local faith community (parish) support you on your RCIA journey through prayer, Christian witness and fellowship.

The Archbishop of Sydney, Most Reverend Anthony Fisher OP, as part of his overall pastoral care of the Archdiocese, personally and actively promotes the Catechumenate. He normally welcomes the new members by presiding at the Rite of Election in Lent and the Mass of Thanksgiving after Easter.

The Parish Priest and assistant priests at the local parish play a special role in ministering to the pastoral and spiritual care of those on the journey and accompanying them.

A team of catechists usually guides the formation process of those in the RCIA group along with the parish priest(s). As those in formation share their experience of God in their own lives, catechists guide them to a deeper reflection on the Word of God and greater understanding of the faith of the Church.
